Avoid this... Pre-writing is an important part of the Writing Process! The key to countering writer's block!
RESPONDING TO PRITCHARD'S & HONEYCUTT'S "THE PROCESS APPROACH TO WRITING INSTRUCTION"
For Class 7:
Part A (post by 2/23): Building on our brainstormed Padlet above, our readings, and our class discussion of the writing process, we'll use Pritchard and Honeycutt's review of the research on the writing process approach to teaching writing to get a better sense of this strategy. After reading the chapter provided as a PDF on the moodle, create a wiki page link below and then post a brief reflection about the article, "The Process Approach to Writing Instruction: Examining Its Effectiveness," that addresses what you feel it contributes to your understanding of teaching writing effectively. Use your first name and P & H Reflection as the link. See Taylor's link below as an example.
Part B (post by 3/1): As indicated on the prep sheet, we will next work in small groups to engage in what Hicks refers to as collaborative, co-authored writing (p. 44). Our initial step will be to (a)initially summarize the research article, and then (b)to extend it further (to be discussed later). For 3/1, each small group will collaborate below to provide a brief summary of their section of the article. The goal will be to put this in language that is easy to comprehend and could then be used by other teachers and administrators to serve as a rationale for promoting the teaching of writing using a process approach with parents and other constituents.
